Making the World a More Playful Place

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK – September 16th, 2017 – It’s time to get up, get out, and go play! Today, we helped our partner Nickelodeon kick off their annual Worldwide Day of Play (WWDoP)! Each year, the WWDoP encourages kids and their families to turn off the television, and go play outdoors. To celebrate, Nickelodeon offers a day of activities, games and giveaways in Prospect Park.

To start the morning off, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of NYC hosted their 13th Annual Race for the Kids. As part of Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play, the race is an important opportunity for New Yorkers of all ages to support BBBS in their mission of providing kids strong one-on-one mentors that will help change their life for the better. We believe mentoring is critical to youth success, and were thrilled to be a part of it. Once the race wrapped up, our CEO Benita Fitzgerald Mosley proudly awarded the top 3 male and female runners of the day. Benita, who is an Olympic Gold Medalist in track & field, fittingly gave each winner a medal to celebrate their victory.

Then, the real fun started. Nickelodeon took over Prospect Park with dozens of exciting activations from their partners including Playworks, Major League Baseball, Toys “R” Us, and the New York Red Bulls. We were proud to join this line-up, and teamed up with our long-time partner Up2Us Sports to present a flag rugby station. At our station, Up2Us coaches taught kids how to play flag rugby. For many of the kids, it was their first time trying rugby and they had a blast.

We are grateful to Nickelodeon for allowing us to be a part of the Worldwide Day of Play! Our special thanks to Up2Us Sports for teaming up with us, and helping make the day so special for all the kids that attended.
